The Hospitals & Institutions (H&I) Subcommittee carries the message of Narcotics Anonymous to addicts who cannot attend regular NA meetings because they are in treatment centers, correctional facilities, hospitals, or other institutions where access to outside meetings is restricted.

The purpose of H&I is simple: to make sure every addict has the opportunity to hear that recovery through Narcotics Anonymous is possible, regardless of where they are. H&I meetings are often the first introduction someone has to NA and are meant to provide hope and information about our program.

The H&I Committee serves the Greater Middle Tennessee Area by:

• Organizing and supporting NA meetings and presentations inside treatment centers, hospitals, jails, prisons, and other institutions where regular NA meetings are not available.
• Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who carry the NA message into these facilities.
• Working with facility staff to establish and maintain relationships that allow NA meetings to continue.
• Providing approved NA literature and meeting schedules so participants can connect with NA after they leave the facility.
• Coordinating volunteers, panel leaders, and panel coordinators to ensure meetings are reliable, consistent, and follow both NA principles and each facility’s requirements.
• Sharing experience among trusted servants so H&I panels can better carry the message of recovery.
• Working with the Area Public Relations Committee when developing services for new facilities.

Everything the H&I Committee does is guided by the Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Narcotics Anonymous, along with the rules of the facilities where we serve. Our role is not to provide treatment, counseling, legal advice, or case management. Our responsibility is simply to carry the message that an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live through Narcotics Anonymous.
